Due to lack of upkeep, many variety of birds had chosen it for raising their families. Needless to say, the babies of several breeds were spread all over the yard and were all at different stages of growth. I and my sisters gathered the ones that survived and took them home.

One by one, all of them died, with the exception of 2 Grackles. Heartbreaking, yes, but having helped the 2 survive, made it all worthwhile.

This was in the mid ‘70's, so the only guidance we had was from people who knew birds and what they preferred to eat. We started out with baby food, veggies, fruit, and meat, mixed together, thinned with water and fed with a glass eyedropper. They thrived!

Knowing how our Mom felt about longterm, indoor animals of any kind, we knew that the main goal was to eventually get them “back into the wild." As their flight feathers started to come in, we would take them out and put them on a lower branch of the Maple tree, in our backyard. We still would go out regularly, to feed them, then, in the evening, we'd bring them back into the house.

As they matured, we backed off on feeding them, almost creating “monsters." They were getting really good at flying and every time the slider screen door would open, they would, literally, dive bomb the person coming out. They wanted to be fed, NOW! In time, we started leaving them in the tree, overnight. Each morning was an experience, walking out the backdoor! However, within a week to 10 days, their visits started coming from other trees and bushes around the yard. Eventually, we ceased seeing them.

Sad, yes! But knowing that our efforts helped 2 little birds survive and thrive, makes it all worthwhile!

All that said, Emmil, WAY TO GO!!!Myjourneyhomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00236557127446785669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381087627669212625.post-2623276192090679952015-10-08T20:24:21.639+07:002015-10-08T20:24:21.639+07:00*high five!*high five!Life with Birdshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17045987415807487072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381087627669212625.post-59184260575179448522015-10-08T20:23:36.434+07:002015-10-08T20:23:36.434+07:00:D:DLife with Birdshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17045987415807487072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381087627669212625.post-52276640254909482942015-10-08T20:01:50.410+07:002015-10-08T20:01:50.410+07:00My one and only yellow sided conure is s special k...My one and only yellow sided conure is s special kid too!
