Description

LIFE WITH BIRDS is a web-comic strip about living with pet birds. The story can be funny, sad or heartwarming. It's a mix between personal experience and wild imagination of my life as an artist and a bird parent. All the characters in my comic are based on the real birds that I have/had. New comic is released once in 2 weeks here. Special bird comics (full page, several pages long) are posted on my Patreon for patrons only.

Pepe meet family

Oh lol, they didn't know they were dealing with a tattletale! :D
If you miss his tattletale story with his nanny, you'd better check his FB album. ^_^
I once said I wouldn't let him meet the other lovebirds, but he's already 5 months old now. So I was curious what his reaction would be because he has an independent character like his mom, Papao.

I didn't leave him alone in the colony though. It was dangerous to do so. Lovebirds are only nice to their own mates. In a colony life, they will beat a newbie to make sure he knows that he ranks the lowest in the colony, that he should eat, drink, bath last, that he could only stay in the worst corner, play with unwanted toys, etc. I don't want Pepe get traumatized from getting bitten, which might cause him not letting me hold his feet anymore or worse, learned that biting can be used to keep my hand away.

I stood next to Pepe while he was in the colony cage. When the other birds tried to faze him, Pepe was very calm... probably because he had no idea what they wanted to do (bite, kick, yell at him). He was still innocent. He still believes that all birds are nice like his nanny, Pipi. So, if I saw a bird was gonna attack him, I took him away. He was a bit confused when I kept taking him with me every now and then, lol. Example: while he was playing by himself, chewing a branch, I saw Pippin was speeding toward him, or when he walked toward his parent nest box (Papao was opening her beaks wide as a sign she was ready to kill any trespassers).

Below was the first draft of the comic:
It was based on the following photos (real events), but eh... when I was drawing the comic, my imagination took over so... yeah, next time u read a comic here, gotta question yourself which part is reality which part is not. But I guess I'll develop Pepe character as a psycho. :D

What do you think of the photo addition on this post? :)
Would you like to see more content like this on the next posts? (Not just a piece of a comic). Let me know your thought! Thanks.

  1. He looks a little tiny bit like Penny in the very first picture panel! Just a little bit ... I think it is the lighting. But he seemed to handle himself well!

    1. Wow, did you remember Penny? But Penny did not have an edge mutation.

    2. I just remember looking at all your pics of Penny! I think those were the first I saw of all your pics at Deviant Art. :-) And I think it is just his head and shoulders that resemble her in that pic. And you are so right ... from the wing joint down he is much more colorful than she was.
