But Mr. Sassy pants is just too proud to ask, you bet! :D I have to pick him up and give him some head rub only to have him looking at me unimpressed, especially if I accidentally rub his ear which will make him feel more ticklish and yawn. He has learned to rub his left face on the corner of his platform now but sometimes when he's out playing on my working table, I still need to assist him giving a relieve for those itchy pin feathers on his left face and nape.

DeleteI had a Bengalese Finch with one foot. He was able to scratch himself with his stump (just barely). He also had a mate for awhile who would groom him. Both went over the Rainbow Bridge years ago.
ReplyDeleteHow long was the stump of your finch? Chopchop's only has half of his left tarsal bone and it's popped out of his ankle. So it's hard to move the tarsal as his please I bet :D
DeleteMy yellow sided conure has a incomplete and lower split beak so he is unable to eat seeds and most other foods that birds it. He can only eat solids in powder form like egg food and soft crushed biscuits. I blender pellets to powder form so that he can eat them. He is coming to two years now and I have to continue hand feeding him once a day so that he doesn't end up loosing out on his needed nutrients. Due to this diet he gets stomach issues once in a while so I have to keep a very close look out to his appetite and poop. We have had many vet visits from the time he was born till today as him falling ill due to smt is of great concern as it affects his weight and well-being a lot quicker coz of his diet. His upper beak needs once a month trimming since he is unable to trim them on his own. He also needs regularly cleaning his mouth due to it being infection prone coz of the gap where food likes to clog and get stuck. He is finally of acceptable weight. Besides that, he is a social pleaser as he goes to everyone and loves to strut and "sing" and dance and fight. It makes all the effort with him worthwhile :)
