Chopchop mochi

Any of your birds love sand bath? I know song birds do, but I've never heard parrots do it. :D Btw, next month I'll renovate my house so I'm not sure there will be comic updates on this blog in August. We'll see... :)

Dory - human version

It always takes me a lot of time to remember people's names including their pets' names. I'm just one of those who is naturally born - never good with names... XD I memorize things by memories. The more times I share with someone the more I'll remember everything about them including their names. Otherwise, it will be just some Deja Vu feelings I get when I meet them next time. I have tried putting more effort like connecting one's hair do with names, still, even the hair-do will be forgotten soon, lol. So I'm sorry if I have forgotten your name or your bird's name... It's embarrassing but it just happens. >.<

Why women rule

Because men are sissies... in my lovebird colony. :D The females are like amazon women, very fierce and much stronger. So, for example, if I need to clip Pence's nails, he will hide behind Papao because he knows Papao will make a stand and bite me. Pepe has learned the advantage of being a sissy and copied his dad's attitude fast. Peewee looks like he has some balls first but his balls will drop as fast as his heart when he sees the nail clipper... and he'll hide behind his GF, Pippin... All my previous lovebirds were like that too. What about your birds? :D

Red dragon fruit

Moral lesson: Don't be an ass to your bird, they'll learn from you and return it double! FYI, red dragon fruit juice is very deep and rich in color. It will stain anything white with bright neon pink. Try it with your birds & let me know how they react, k? XD

Btw, what do you think of my comics so far...?  Which one do you like best? Why? Thanks for your feedback. It will gimme info what I should draw more for my readers... :)

Pet trainers

LOL, this comic is based on the fact that most people will talk to their parrots but they probably will just whistle or make gibberish sound trying to mimic their own finches or canaries. :D I talk to both my lovebirds and finches/sparrow but well since I'm not much a talker anyway, none of them talk, except Pepe that can say his name and mimic Pipi's calling chirp. What about you and your birdies? :D

Insomnia

Real story of my life as an artist and a bird mom. My sleeping clock is chaos so I usually have to take a nap to get some sleep quota my body needs. My birds are not cockatoos or macaws, but 12 small birds can make a good mix of scream and fighting sound that will wake me up. My lovebirds, for example, will not poop in their sleeping cages so they need to release their morning bombs in the birdie room. Chopchop usually gets upset with a house lizard that's trying to steal his fallen seeds at dawn, and the finches? 4 noisy boys start their live show to woo the ladies even before the neighbor's roo does. :D What about your birds? :)

Chicken porridge

Pocky warned me on the last second. :D
Finches' poopoo sometimes can be so deceiving... XD I've never eaten bird's poo thanks God, but maybe some particles of it, lol, who knows! It's hard to keep everything clean for more than 5 minutes when birds are around. Bird parents know what I'm talking about! :D

Carrot slices

No, you will not say finches are lame, Pepe! Not the finches we know anyway. :D The 4 terrorists, the hornball prince and the yakuza nanny are just too awesome to be called lame. Here are reasons  why finches are awesome sauce: First, just like you, Pepe, they can bond with their humans, play with toys, cuddly and eat very much the same food. 2nd, and the greatest thing is, they are much easier to maintain. They don't destroy toys like those with hook bills. Their bites felt ticklish., smaller place needed and less noisy! :D

So, be careful with what you say, everyone, else you might end up like Pepe!! :D

Btw, sparrows and other birds make great pets too I believe. It's all about how much time we invest on a bird to bond with. So less birds we have the better the relationship will be with each bird. Somehow I end up with a dozen of birds, but if you just have 1 or 2 now, trust me, you'd better spend the extra time with your current birds you have than a new one. Quality is better than quantity. :)

If you love my comic, please copy paste the link of my blog on your page/blog/other sosmed accounts so that your birdie friends can read it HERE. Downloading the comic and repost it on your site won't direct traffic/visitors to my blog which I desperately need so that people will notice my bird themed gift stores and probably will buy a t-shirt or a mug with my art. Thanks for the help. :)

Diet

I like salads, just not carrots! Raw carrots is EEW... unless it's blended with other fruits into smoothie... My finches don't like raw carrots either. Only my lovebirds and sparrow eat their carrots.
What about you and your birds? Do you eat your carrots? :D

Itchy and scratchy

Bird comic strips by Emmil Thomas

But Mr. Sassy pants is just too proud to ask, you bet! :D I have to pick him up and give him some head rub only to have him looking at me unimpressed, especially if I accidentally rub his ear which will make him feel more ticklish and yawn. He has learned to rub his left face on the corner of his platform now but sometimes when he's out playing on my working table, I still need to assist him giving a relieve for those itchy pin feathers on his left face and nape.

Have a handicapped bird of your own? How does yours adjust its life with its disability? Care to share your story with me here? :) Share on Tumblr

Go shopping

It almost sounds like one of my favorite songs: "You are always on my mind... You are always on my mind." But, well, if we think our pets like our own kids... this can't be helped. :D And I believe this happen on both parents, not just moms, but dads too! Any bird dads here want to verify this? :D However, bird moms must have the bigger heart conflict in this case. Ya know, moms need to make end meets with whatever budget they have every month. So, deciding priorities over some impulsive ideas is like a daily battle. :D

Lately my drawing speed has increased, but my writing skill has dropped. My mind just feels blank staring on the screen when I'm supposed to write a few more paragraphs, just like now. It's always like this, when one muse takes control, others will enter a hibernation mode. So, could you do more writing on behalf of me on the comments below? This blog visitors and I would like to read your stories that relate with today comic, if you have one. Thanks a bunch!! <3

Peekaboo!

Bird comic strip
Not all flight birds will be willing to mimic our words, parrots and not. So, better keep this in mind when you want to adopt a bird. The best way to make a bird talk is if it's the only bird at home. A bird is a social animal, and without another species of its own to socialize with, it will bond faster with its human and learn to talk as a way to communicate with the human. So, yeah, even a sparrow or a finch might have a better chance talking than a flock of budgie living together in a cage.

Anyway, after watching some parrot videos showing them playing and saying "Peekaboo!" with their owners I have been intrigued enough to try it with Pepe. But Boy, not only he didn't show any interest, he was pissed off...! I might have interrupted his masturbation schedule. Who knew? Lol. :D

Btw, do you enjoy reading my bird comics? A new exclusive series is available on my Patreon account, for my birds' patrons. If I have more patrons, I can submit 3 and more comic strips, instead the usual 2, a month on my blog here. Are there any of you who likes to support an artistic birdie mom and her dozen feathery kids for just $5 every month with ongoing exclusive bird comics to read as a reward? Your donation will be saved to help me renovate my birdie room. :)

It's not funny!!

Bird web comic in yonkoma manga style
One day when I wanted to change the paper on Chopchop's poopoo tray, I brought Chopchop, my 1 foot sparrow, to my PC room and left him there with Peanut and Pipi who usually play in my working room from morning to afternoon. Once I had changed the paper & returned to my room to get Chopchop back to his cage, I saw those 2 boys facing each others quarreling on my drawing tablet just like on panel 3 I drew above. Lol, I couldn't help but laughed looking at them bickering while standing on 1 foot! :D If I was a minute late, I'm sure they would have a fight like what I drew on panel 4. Peanut's foot was hurt at that time but he's ok now.

So to keep this from happening again I have set up a small cage on my drawing table that I can use to lock the finches during Chochop visiting hour in my room. :D The cage has food center and playground so it can keep the finches entertained inside for a while. Pipi does have an objection with this solution though. She has a dilemma if I have to lock her with Peanut. It's like getting oneself locked with a stalker that keeps leering on one's butt while the other option is being free out there but getting chased by a homicidal maniac because Chopchop really hates other birds and the javan munias are afraid of him every time he barks at them. Oh yeah, this one can really bark like puppies! Only Peanut who doesn't give a damn if Chopchop trying to intimidate him with voices. It's another thing though, if he stands in front of him, pecking his beak and bark... That means he asks for a brawl and Peanut would be glad to meet the challenge.

I didn't lose any of my birds last year, in fact I got Chopchop. I hope this year they all will stay happy and healthy too. I'll always try my best to keep the kids safe. One can always and must try, at least. I will save all the Patreon money to rebuild a better bird room for my lovebirds, so if you enjoy reading my comics and like to meet the real birds from this comic strip characters, please join my bird patronage here. You can also send them gifts. I have made a short list of the things I believe will be very useful for them on Amazon. Click the pic below to see what the kids will enjoy from you. Thanks a bunch for following my blog. I'm drawing special comic pages for my patrons now. See you soon on Patreon next week! :)

Who are you?!!

yonkoma manga comic strip about living with birds
Seriously, ever since Chopchop became a member of my family, I have often walked around my house in just t-shirt and panty. He's very picky with what I wear. I have to buy a dozen of plain red t-shirts because he likes red best for tops. He will freak out if he sees me wearing anything else, even a red t-shirt with a white text on the front is still a no-no. There are few short pants that he has approved to his likes. If I wear short pants with color/pattern he hates and then walk across the bird room, he will toss around inside his cage like a pin ball in the speed of light.

We have rainy season now. My clothing takes longer to dry since it's cloudy/rainy all the time... Panties though, are easier to dry, and lucky, he likes all my panties so far... Maybe this one is just a pervert, who knows. :D

So yeah... if people don't know a thing about me being a crazy bird lady, they probably think I've never taken a bath because my clothing look hardly change at all! Lol. Has this happened to you too? :D

Btw, Chopchop's cage doesn't look like the one I drew here... Wish I had the standard healthy bird cage people usually use in USA. If any of you like to donate cages like the one I listed here, I'd be forever grateful! I'm saving my Patreon donation to renovate my lovebird room so that those 5 brats can get morning sun light from the windows. I plan to demolish the outside colony cage and rebuild it as part of the house and use it as my lovebird room. The outdoor colony cage has been abandoned due to smoke and cats. People here like to burn garbage on their yard, and in the dry season they'll also smoke the sewers in front of our houses to kill dengue mosquitoes. And cats... they like to prowl on the top wire of the cage.

I live in a crowded neighborhood where houses share walls so we can only have windows on the front wall... If I move the bird room to further front, the lovebirds will have sun light and I can take better photos of them. The cost of material and fee for workers might be around 1500 USD, so... anyone else wants to be my birds' patrons? Your donation will worth it because you, and only you, will be able to see all those bright and funny lovebird photos again, just like the ones I used to take in the outside colony cage before. :) Btw, keep in mind that your donation via Patreon will get cut about 12 - 15% for Patreon, tax and paypal/ credit card fee.

I hope I can gather the fund and start the renovation in August (dry season). Let's see if I could have more patrons to reach my goal on time! I just wanna see my fids live a better life, because they are my source of happiness! ^_^

Check the pics below of my current bird room so that you could get the ideas of what I'm talking about. ;)

Sprout killers

On the previous comic strip, we have talked how important it is to check bird poops daily, I can even tell whose poop it is because of this. Now, to make sure birds will poop something normal, they must eat normal healthy food too, not just seeds and pellets but also fresh veggies and fruits.

Problem is birds are picky eaters. And the problem will become harder if you feed birds in an aviary or a colony cage, you just can't tell who has eaten what. That's why it's important to have a one on one play time with each bird so that you can recognize which vegetable one likes best. You can even encourage them eating new veggie by using it as toys when you play together.

After a while, you'll get this enhanced vision that will let you know who done it by just seeing the remains of the victims..., err, the veggies. Some birds have their own distinctive way of eating their food, sprouts for example, Peanut likes to hold down a sprout with his foot and rip the middle part of it, like an eagle! or just bite it in the middle and shake his head to get some parts off (though it usually ends up with him getting slapped on the eyes by either the head or the root part :D ). Pipi will just eat the neck part of the sprouts, Petpet will sip dry the water from the whole sprout, Pepe will just chew them randomly.

If you haven't done it, give it a try and observe. It's kinda fun to find a new fact everyday by playing with your birds. And you don't have to use expensive pet store toys to play with them. Use your creativity and turn vegetable into toys. They have different shapes and colors. They can easily get chopped and joined together using a skewer, cable tie, toothpicks... Just use your imagination, the possibilities are endless! ;)

Last but not least, a whole new bird‬ comic will be available for 2nd tier patrons starting from January 2016. Don't miss it, join my bird patronage now, get ready to read this hilarious craziest version of Snow white only on my Patreon. Starring: Pepe as Snow white. Pipi, Chopchop, Peanut, Pat, Put, Pit, Pet as 7 Dwarfs.

This will be the last post from me this year. So, Merry Christmas and Happy new year. I'll see you all again in 2016. Cheers!! ^0^/

Poop examiner

Bird web comic strip in yonkoma format
Today topic is birdie poop! Disgusting? :D Aaw, you must be a newbie with birdies! Over the years, you'll get used to it! Thanks God I don't use photos but just drawings here so I hope we can continue talking about the wonderful world of poo-poo! :D

If you like to let your birds out of cage for some exercising, flying and cuddling time, you must be aware how many poops they drop at significant time. After picking up poops for years from my drawing table, my cloth, my hair, and every where my flocks have gone too, I can't help but notice the different size and unique shape of my bird poops. I can recognize whose poop this is by looking at the size and appearance. I even can't help but admire some that resemble Easter island statues! Lol, I guess this thing alone make me deserved to be called a crazy bird lady, huh? :D

Some of you might have known the fact that a bird poop could tell you a lot of how healthy your bird is, especially the digestive tract. You can tell if a bird has diarrhea, internal bleeding, dehydration, lacked some nutrients, eggs (for hens), worms and other diseases just by examining poop daily. Since birds like to hide their illness until it's too late... it's important to be able to tell any slightly minuscule change on your birdie poop. So start training your eyes by checking your bird poop every day if you haven't been doing it! :D

Do you have some funny bird poo-poo related story that you can share with me? Go ahead write it on the comment below! Thanks for reading my comic today and don't forget to subscribe if you haven't. Link to subscription is on the right top of this blog. See you on the next comic!! ^_^/

Indirect kiss

Would you eat what your birds regurgitate for you? Those slimy peeled seeds with whatever fresh chop they ate before? :D It's known as a loving and sometimes sensual gesture to regurgitate food in bird society. What, you feel disgusting with the barf...?? Oh, if you only knew how much Peanut wishes Pipi could barf on him at least once in a life time. Share your story getting barfed by your birds here! :D

Bird interpeter

Lol, I hope you like today comic. :D Now, about the story behind....
If you are the bird person in your family, the one that takes care of the birds, you must be familiar with the body language of your birds, the sound they make and each of their unique characteristics. You probably need to keep telling your family members and friends who like to interact with the birds, the do's and don'ts, the why and how... Same here with my hubby, I have to interpret the smallest gesture that's invisible to normal human's eyes but very obvious to a crazy bird mom like me. I have to tell him not to wear a certain color clothing in front of some birds, if he needs to walk like creeping close to the wall while bringing a box if he needs to go through the bird room so that the birds won't see it, if he has to stop doing something because the birds hate it, fear it, or what to do to make a bird comfortable on his hand, etc, etc I'm sure you get my point. ;)

On my bird comic strips, the birds will be able to communicate in English with me but not with my hubby. He'll just hear squawk and gibberish only. While this is somewhat true irl, this will also give me a chance to make educational comics about how non bird people see birds and what we should teach them so that at least they can understand those emo creatures and learn to tolerate them especially if they all live under the same roof. Of course, it'll be done in my weird one of a kind humor... :D

No one was born to be a bird whisperer, heck I don't believe one exists. It's just a term created by people who are not into birds. They'll think the same thing when they see the animal trainers performing in circus you bet, but I'm sure you don't want to be put on the same level as those trainers, right? I, however, do believe in passion and true love as the universal language to build bridge in inter species friendship.

We often hear about how animals ALWAYS love their humans unconditionally, that they have big hearts that forgive and forget our mistakes... This is bull, imo... I actually believe something that makes more sense, something like... every animal species, including human, have their own unique characters and they do have emotions like us, which means they can love, they can feel hurt, dejected, traumatized, scared and they can do hate humans from abusive experiences in the past. There's no such thing like happy all the time animal no matter what treatment they get, else we will never hear stories about aggressive animals that bite people and get to be put down every now and then.

So, if people ask you how on earth they could get their pets to love them unconditionally, simple... just tell them to do the same to the animals. It takes two to tango, remember? Same thing with having a good relationship with pets. A loving home will make every being living there feel loved, humans and not. Don't you agree? :)

After two years

Slice of life bird comics
Today, 2 years ago, Pocky flew to the rainbow bridge, taking a big piece of my heart that could never be recovered, refilled, back to its original shape with anything, anyone. I carve a pumpkin lantern for him every October. In 2013, 2014... and now. So sometimes, just counting from the pumpkin, it seems like he's been gone for 3 years instead of 2.

I know some of you are still mourning over your birds, or maybe a person, or even a precious collection of stamps, or something else. And to say you feel sad now, might not be completely right. Some might feel worthless, despicable, even loathe themselves more than anything.

Cry. Just cry the pain out. If you need to hug your bird's cage crying, do it. If you need to sleep with your bird's favorite toy, do it. When we lose someone special in our lives, the first few months will feel like hell. It's normal. I know you just want to hug him one once again, kiss him, tell him lots and lots things that won't stop coming in your head. I say, just keep talking to him. Talk to his photo, write a letter to him, tell him how much you miss him, how it's unbearable to spend a day without him.

If you like drawing, draw your feeling for him. If you like to knit, knit something for him. If you like to bake, bake a bread with his name initial. Make a tribute. Let him know how much you still think of him. When you are grieving, it's just about you and your special one. Others will never know what it means to lose him. So if some try to be a smart ass, just say Fuck you, or whatever, they deserve it.

It's true time will make us feel the pain less and less, but it's never completely gone. We could burst back into tears from 1 single memory, 1 song, 1 conversation or on the day of their death anniversary. We'll change. We might be tougher, bitter, wiser, whatever, but we'll never be the same old us again. How could we not change if our hearts' shape have? We have a big scar there now. Our hearts don't look perfect anymore but I say, the scar from losing someone's special is our statement of love. It's a proof of existence of that special one in our lives. It does hurt when we lose someone but I think none of us will choose to never have had him in the first place just because how he makes us feel so horrible when he's gone. All those sweet memories... how he touched our hearts so deep... he's worth the pain.

For those who have a friend/family that's grieving now. Stay around. If you are not sure what to stay, then don't. After all, it's your act that will speak louder than all the great words a writer can compose to say how sorry you are.

Your grieving friend is like a zombie with a super sensitive heart right now. But if you care, be there for her. If you live near by, bring food, help her clean the house. Make her feel less like shit for not being able to function normally and to avoid another problem that will make her suffer more, like her other pet gets sick from lacking of attention and daily care.

Anyone can type 3 words + emoticon or sympathy pic stolen from the internet. Anyone can just speak out their mind and doesn't give a second thought what impact the words have to a bleeding heart. But if you DO care, make time for your loved one who is grieving. Because time is the best precious gift one can give to another. In the eye of time, we are all equal. Whether one is rich or poor, a celebrity or a homeless, every person only has 24 hours a day. Please be mindful, understanding, patient... even if you feel like you are getting ignored, pushed away, or even stormed with sarcasm, be there. Weeks later, months later, or even years later, when the pain has gone down to a more manageable level, your grieving friend will remember who had been there when she was not her usual self.

Never ever be mean to someone who is grieving. You have NO idea what one feels inside. Thank you for reading this. And another thanks for keeping Pocky in your thought today... and more. :)

Heavenly talk

slice of life bird yonkoma manga web comics
Lol, don't argue with God! That's the point of this comic. I don't know know why he sent me Chopchop to take care of when I have already had 11 feathery pycho kids. Maybe he wants to give another chance to take care a very special kid like Pocky was. Well, whatever His plan is, it'll be better than my own. I just have to have this faith that He'll make everything beautiful in time and I'll see why things happen in my life. :)

This is Chopchop. If you like to be his aunt and uncle, please join my bird patronage at Patreon. I've started a special comic series for my bird patrons, a little reward to show my heartfelt gratitude for your support. Thanks for every little donation you sent to us, whether it's a $2 pledge a month, bird toys, shopping at my bird gift store, commissioning me a portrait painting of your bird, etc. It's heartwarming to see people still care for others especially those who live in a 3rd world country like me. You make my birds know a better life. I'm alone can't go this far without you all! <3
